KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers notched a sweep of county and Region IV-AA soccer rival Buford on Tuesday night at AJ’s Volunteer Stadium.
The Volunteers, the defending region champions, topped the Jackets, 6-1.
AJ, 4-1, was led by Jared Truesdale with four goals. Mason McKittrick tallied two goals for the Vols.
Truesdale also had three assists, while Cam Vincent netted two. Luke Faulkenberry added an assist.
Tyler Williams, in goal, notched 11 saves.
The Vols had 17 shots on goal in the win.
The Junior Vols improved to 5-0 on the season as Bryce Harbin tallied three goals.
Carter Nunnery, two-plus saves, played keeper in the first half. Austin Kennington aided the shutout with four saves in the second half. Zain Hunter capped the shutout with two-plus saves in the second half.
AJ faces the Governor’s School in Hartsville tonight for its next match.
Bruins sweep Cougars
The Lancaster High School boys soccer team launched Region III-AAAA play with an exciting win over York on Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.
Regulation and overtime ended in a 3-all tie, so the match went to penalty kicks shootout.
Jonathan Baker scored on the first LHS PK, and Osiel Tello blocked York’s first try, Jason Ramos scored on the second LHS PK, and Tello blocked York’s second shot.
Aydan Saldana scored the Bruins’ third PK, and Tello blocked York’s third shot to cap the win.
LHS goals in regulation were scored by Jonathan Baker (2) and Mason Green. Assists on those goals came from Benjamin Guevara, Mason Green and Johan Deras.
Lancaster improved to 3-2 overall, 1-0 in region play.
LHS continues region play tonight at home against Ridge View.
In the jayvee match, the Junior Bruins won as Kevin Monsalvo and Brandon Moncayo tallied for LHS. Rogelio Vazquez recorded an assist.
Jakob Whitfield notched the shutout for the 4-1 Junior Bruins.
