Trent Brown returns to New England Patriots practice, rookie CB Duke Dawson absent

FOXBOROUGH — Previously the lone player missing from practice, Trent Brown appeared at the Patriots’ shorts-and-shells session Friday afternoon.

But he did not give New England perfect attendance.

With Brown back in the fold after dealing with an illness, rookie cornerback Duke Dawson was absent. All other Patriots were present except practice-squad running back Josh Ferguson. Ferguson has seemingly has been replaced by a new wide receiver who wore No. 17 at Friday’s practice. New England has yet to make an official regarding any such transaction.

Dawson returned to practice 15 days ago after starting the season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. The Pats have six days left to decide if they will activate him to the 53-man roster or keep him on IR. Earlier in the week, running back Rex Burkhead received the team’s second and final designation to return off of injured reserve.

New England held a walkthrough Wednesday to kick off its preparation for Tennessee, then a padded practice on Thursday. In addition to Brown, the Patriots listed nine players as limited on their resulting injury report each day. New England will release its final injury report Friday afternoon.

The Pats and Titans will kick off Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
