In a case of where are they now, a former NFL and Super Bowl-winning player is facing multiple criminal charges including heroin possession and driving under the influence.

Ex-New York Giants lineman Barry Cofield was arrested after officers in Seminole County, Florida found him “passed out” in his SUV at an intersection early Tuesday, USA Today reported Friday.

According to an arrest report, police saw the 34-year-old Cofield apparently sleep in the driver’s seat of his black Cadillac Escalade at an off ramp eastbound Interstate 4 as the light changed from red to green. Cofield eventually woke up several minutes later, and drove away instead of putting his car into park as officers requested, authorities say.

As a squad car pursued Cofield with their sirens and lights on, he was not speeding, authorities say, but he did swerve between lanes and side-swiped another vehicle at an intersection. He later hit a second squad car attempting to block his path and hit that vehicle before trying to flee his SUV.

Officers said Cofield had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath after taking him into custody. He refused to take a breathalyzer test, officers say as they also found front pocket two small bags containing a “red powdery substance” that later tested positive for heroin, authorities say.

Cofield was booked and released Tuesday morning, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kim Cannaday told the newspaper. In addition heroin possession and DUI, Cofield also faces charges including fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on an officer and resisting an officer.
