Kicking off today with Russia vs Saudi Arabia and ending with the big finale in Moscow on Sunday July 15, all the build-up, games and post-match analysis will be screened in high-definition and surround sound in the comfort of Showcase Cinema de Lux Southampton.
Renowned food artist Prudence Staite has also created a trophy like no other to celebrate the World Cup 2018 being shown.
Made entirely out of popcorn, the 75cm-tall replica trophy was commissioned by the cinema to celebrate its free screenings.
The unique ‘Pop of the World’ trophy took 50 hours to construct and consists of more than 2,000 pieces of popcorn. It will be displayed at Showcase Cinema de Lux Southampton for the duration of the competition.
The key games to look out for include England’s start their campaign against Tunisia at 7pm on Monday June 18. Gareth Southgate’s squad will then face Panama at 1pm on Sunday June 24, with their final group game kicking off against Belgium at 7pm on Thursday June 28.
Aside from the Three Lions, Portugal take on Spain at 7pm on tomorrow, Argentina taking on Iceland at 2pm on Saturday June 16, and holders Germany starting their campaign against Mexico at 4pm on Sunday June 17.
Prudence Staite said: “The World Cup unites people of all ages and nationalities, so being asked by Showcase Cinemas to create something that encompasses this to help it celebrate the tournament was an honour. Combining popcorn with the most iconic and revered trophy in world football was a no brainer.”
Mark Barlow, general manager added: “We’re delighted to bring all the action to the Southampton big screen this summer. Watching the games with friends and family on the biggest and best screens, with fantastic surround sound creates an atmosphere like no other. What’s more, the games are completely free of charge so fans can watch as many as they want in the comfort of Showcase de Lux this summer.”
