Gutierrez leads Hirschi over Graham again
GRAHAM – For the second time in 10 days, the Hirschi boys soccer team claimed a 6-1 rout of Graham.
And for the second time in 10 days, Jose Gutierrez recorded a second-half hat trick as the Huskies finished the regular season on a high note.
Jose Chavarria scored the game’s lone goal at Newton Field in the first half, while Joseph Castillo and Sergio Chavez joined Gutierrez with second-half goals.
The Huskies (10-6-4, 5-0-1) have a bye as district champs and won’t begin the postseason until April 1-2.
“We weren’t playing very good in the first half, but we played much better in the second half,” Hirschi coach Alston Calliste said. “Our team is playing really well going into the playoffs.”
Lady Huskies take down Graham, 5-0
GRAHAM – The Hirschi girls already had the District 5-4A title locked up before Friday’s match at Graham.
But after the Lady Blues pushed the Lady Huskies to penalty kicks the last time the teams met, Hirschi wanted to end the regular season on a high note.
That’s what happened as Jasmine Aguilar recorded a hat trick, while Polet Garcia and Michinsi Montoya scored once. Hirschi finishes the regular season at 8-10-3 and will have a first-round bye as the district champion.
Burkburnett edges Farmersville, 2-1
FARMERSVILLE – Sebastian Campos scored a goal in each half Thursday night as Burkburnett took down Farmersville 2-1 in non-district action.
Campos scored his first goal in the fifth minute thanks to a Tanner Heddinghaus through ball, but Farmersville tied it up in the 53rd minute after a missed Bulldog clearance.
However Campos scored his third goal of the week in the 64th minute, finishing a volley off a Seth Donaghey cross. Kevin Gamez had four saves for the Bulldogs (8-12-2), who outshot Farmersville 21-6.
“This was a good game for us coming off the loss to Hirschi,” Burkburnett coach Robert Daiker said. “The boys really attacked well, but we couldn’t finish our opportunities. I was really happy with the way our midfield played today.”
Lady Bulldogs fall at Farmersville
FARMERSVILLE – With four second-half goals, Farmersville was able to pull away from Burkburnett Thursday night for a 5-1 victory in non-district.
The Bulldogs scored on Ashley Green’s penalty kick in the second half after Raegan King was fouled in the box. Other standouts for the Lady Bulldogs (5-14-2) were goalie Emma Driggers, Jasmine Moore, Tracy Slayden, Zoey Woods and Heaven White.
