DOWNTOWN SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Design Center is hosting a week-long event to celebrate the various types of design like architecture, landscape, and graphic design. There are several events planned throughout the week at different locations in Downtown Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls Design Week – Sustainable Neighborhood Summit
It started on Friday, September 28th but doesn’t end until Friday, October 5th. The various activities include workshops, panel discussions, talks, demonstrations, and a pop-up shop of local designers. All of the events are free to attend.
On Monday, there is a hands-on workshop that explores the design thinking process and how you can solve problems through the lens of the end user. It’s from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
Tuesday is all about trivia with a Design Trivia Night at Fernson on 8th. You can test your knowledge of graphic and interior design to architecture, fashion and beyond from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the brewery.
If you’ve ever wanted to start an art collection, Wednesday might be the day to attend for you. Ipso Gallery and the University of South Dakota will have representatives explain how to start an art collection with a focus on prints. That will be at the Sioux Falls Design Center from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.
Downtown Sioux Falls is evolving and growing, which can be a good thing. But there is limited real estate, existing historical buildings and mixed-use development throughout downtown that can cause issues. A panel focusing on the unique challenges the downtown area faces and how they can be solved will start at 5:30 PM on Thursday. Doors open at 5:00 PM at the Design Center.
Students from South Dakota State University will participate in Design Week with four different activities on Friday. They will attend Sidewalk Festivus to engage the downtown community to find out what needs to be changed and what’s liked about downtown right now.
The end of this design week culminates with Downtown First Friday and the Art & Wine Walk. The Sioux Falls Design Center’s featured artist is Jim Heroux, who is a watercolor artist and architect. He will be doing a live demonstration that night from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
