With the first Shazam! teaser creating so much excitement and hype for the upcoming film, fans are understandably curious as to when we can expect another trailer to drop. Will it arrive next month?
The internet is not filled with the most patient of people, especially when it comes to trailers for movies. Case in point: Avengers 4. But there’s another movie on the horizon that has fans excited and while it’s nowhere near the magnitude of Marvel’s blockbuster sequel, it has managed to build some hype over the past few months. I’m talking about New Line Cinema and DC Films’ upcoming new movie Shazam!
Our first look at Shazam! came during San Diego Comic-Con back in July. The teaser trailer gave us our first look at how Billy Batson acquires his powers and the humorous antics that follow. A far departure from the dark and dreary DCEU, the lighthearted tone of Shazam! was met with enthusiasm and excitement. Naturally, fans want to know when we can expect to see more in the form of a new trailer. Director David F. Sandberg offered a response that probably won’t leave many happy.
Or when it’s ready. One of the two.
Vfx takes time and while trailers never have finished vfx the internet has a tendency to not be forgiving. https://t.co/8s17r9n0PT

It’s probably not the answer fans were hoping to hear, but it’s a perfectly reasonable response. The internet is an unforgiving place and enthusiasts tend to hold adaptations of their beloved comic books to high standards. If delaying the release means we get a more polished trailer, and film in general, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Plus, I wouldn’t blame New Line and DC if they were intentionally withholding the trailer as to not be overshadowed by the Avengers 4 trailer, which is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Shazam! doesn’t actually release in theaters until April 5, 2019, so there’s still plenty of time for a new trailer to drop. Of course, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a new trailer for Shazam! drop before the end of the year, especially with Aquaman hitting theaters next month.
