Report: GM set to close plant near Toronto, affecting ‘thousands’ of jobs

General Motors (NYSE:GM) is planning to close all operations at its assembly plant in Oshawa, Ont., near Toronto, a move “affecting thousands of high-paying jobs,” CTV News reports.

The Oshawa closure, expected to be made official on Monday, is part of a global restructuring aimed at moving toward lower-emission vehicles, according to the report.

Currently ~2,500 union positions and 300 salaried employees are employed by GM at Oshawa, where the plant recently became the only factory in North America capable of building both cars and trucks.
