Paris soccer teams both victorious in Friday night action – Paris News

The Paris Wildcats remained perfect in district play, but not without some added drama. The Wildcats and the Pittsburg Pirates were tied 2-2 after regulation and overtime concluded. However, the Wildcats secured the clutch road win, outscoring Pittsburg 5-4 in penalty kicks.

“We did not play our game or match Pittsburg’s intensity coming off their senior night ceremony in the first half,” Paris head soccer coach Clint Cobb said. “But, our boys never gave up and battled back to tie in regulation and again in double overtime to force the shootout. We eventually won 5-4, and I’m proud of that.”

Isaac Vasquez and Jackson Rogers each scored 1 goal in regulation, while Rogers, Alan Garcia, Jesus Rangel, Kyler Beshirs and Justin Medina each scored a goal during penalty kicks. Luis Herrera was strong in the net for Paris as he recorded two clutch penalty kick saves.

The Wildcats will play again at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at home against North Lamar.

Meanwhile, the Paris Lady Wildcats got back on track with a huge home win over Pittsburg. The Lady ’Cats fired on all cylinders, taking the victory by a final score of 11-0.

“The girls had a very solid game tonight,” Lady ’Cats head soccer coach Matt Dickinson said. “We did a good job of pressuring the ball all over the offensive third and our passing was really good. I thought we worked the ball well on both sides of the field and worked hard to get into good supporting positions. Offensively, we were much better about finishing the majority of our opportunities. I’m really happy that we were able to send Ansley off in a great way. She’s been a great part of this program, and we’re all really proud of her.”
