Pa. casinos set single-month revenue gaming record: Here’s how they did it – PennLive


The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported Monday that revenue from the combined play of slot machines and table games set a one-month record during March 2019. The revenue total was $309,125,131.

The amount was also a 2.86 percent increase over March 2018, the only other month since casinos opened in late 2006 where overall revenue was above $300 million ($300,516,011), according to a press release.

March’s numbers were pushed by the highest single month for table games revenue of $82,527,450 complemented by the third-highest monthly slot machine revenue of $226,597,681. The previous high month for table games revenue occurred in April 2017 when $79,596,706 was generated. March’s total ranked only behind March 2012 ($233,147,479) and March 2013 ($229,335,372).

Additionally, this March’s numbers for table games was a 4.25 percent increase compared to March of last year when revenue was $79,165,791. Tax revenue from table games play during March totaled almost $13.3 million, with an average of 1,279 tables in daily operation statewide.

As far as the report on slots, released April 2, it noted that revenues for March rose 2.37 percent over revenue generated the previous March. Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in March of this year was more than $118 million.

The average number of slot machines operating on a daily basis was 25,238 during March 2019 compared to 25,815 at the casinos the previous March.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Tuesday posted on its web site March’s sports wagering report.

The report encompasses the full month returns from:

  • Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course
  • SugarHouse Casino
  • Rivers Casino
  • Parx Casino
  • South Philadelphia Race and Sportsbook
  • Harrah’s Philadelphia

Additionally, it also contains partial month returns from the following:

  • Valley Forge Casino Resort (opened March 13)
  • Valley Forge Race and Sportsbook (opened March 14)

Fantasy contests

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Tuesday posted on its web site the March Fantasy Contests Revenue Report. The report provides a breakdown on fees collected from the play of Pennsylvania participants, Fantasy Contests Operators’ adjusted revenue, and tax revenue due to the Commonwealth.

Fantasy adjusted revenue for March was $1,634,845 compared to an adjusted revenue of $1,629,178 in February.

According to a press release, tax revenue is derived through a 15% assessment on the adjusted revenue reported by the Fantasy Contest Operators and is deposited into the Commonwealth General Fund. This resulted in tax revenue generated during March of $245,227. Six of the Fantasy Contest Operators reported tax revenue due.
