LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) — A boost to the job market is coming to Lowndes County.
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority has announced a new manufacturing company will be opening its doors in April.
Better Way Products is setting up shop in Lowndes County and creating dozens of new jobs. The manufacturing company is moving in to the former Robalo building in Azalea City Business Park. The building has been vacant for ten years but will soon be home to nearly 90 new jobs.
The company designs, engineers and manufactures fiberglass. County officials said, not only is it creating new jobs, it’s also bringing new opportunities to the area they hope continues.
“We don’t have the specific suppliers for what the boat manufacturers use, some of their products. So this is kind of a niche thing for us, so we’re hoping that more companies will realize that our workforce is available and qualified for this type of industry,” said Tom Call, Chair of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority. “It all just goes back in to the economy, you have the workforce working, they take it and spend those dollars at the grocery store, restaurants, clothing stores. That’s how an economy maintains itself.”
Officials said the new jobs will have an average salary of $18 per hour. The positions will range from general labor, packaging and administrative support.
The company expects to create nearly 90 jobs over the next three years, initially creating about 20. It plans to be operational April 1.
The Georgia Department of Labor is hosting a veteran’s job fair Thursday in Valdosta. Better Way Products is expected to be there hiring.
