Vladislava Trokhimchuk, 23, is said to have shown “no remorse” after the alleged cruelty.
One-year-old Danill died of malnutrition but his sister Anna, two, somehow survived the alleged torture in Kiev, Ukraine.
But distressing photos of the flat were shown in court and described as “pure Auschwitz, a torture room for children” yesterday.
It is said the kids suffered malnutrition and attempted to eat wallpaper and other furnishings. Teeth marks were found on the walls, the jury was told.
It’s alleged Trokhimchuk “tortured her children for a profit”, by aiming to make them look so ill that she could post pictures online begging people for urgent cash gifts.
Anna has since been adopted after the ordeal, which occurred in 2017.
The defendant wept in court on the opening day of her trial on “deliberate murder” charges.
Speaking in court, Trokhimchuk said: “I cannot find an excuse for myself.
“I always wanted the best for children.
“I dreamed they would study, live differently than I do, better. That they would have everything.
“I repent very much.
“I cannot understand what I did, or that God took my son from me and put me here (in custody).”
Trokhimchuk, now said to be engaged and still living in Kiev, allegedly “had fun with a lover Anton Podchapko” in the nine days this is said to have happened.
“She was having fun with him while her children were being tortured to death,” said one police source.
The mum’s old social media was full of pictures of her children from before the incident, and messages of love to them.
The trial continues.
