Lance Armstrong goes to hospital, shares bloody selfie after bike crash

Lance Armstrong posted a photo of his bloody face on Instagram on Wednesday after visiting the Aspen Valley Hospital. Armstrong said in the Instagram post that he was getting his “head checked” after going down on the Tom Blake Trail.

For much of his racing life, Lance Armstrong might have just shaken off a bike crash.

But after taking a nasty spill on a bike trail in Colorado, Armstrong got himself checked out at a hospital.

The 46-year-old seven-time Tour de France champion crashed his bike while riding on the Tom Blake Bike Trail in Snowmass Village, Colo., on Wednesday.

“Took quite the blow to the noggin’ so swung by the Aspen Valley Hospital (great facility!) to get my head checked,” Armstrong said in an Instagram post of his bloody face. “For the 46 yrs prior to today I completely would have blown off getting checked. Not now.”

Armstrong was banned from sanctioned cycling for life in 2012 and stripped of his seven Tour de France titles, which he won from 1999 to 2005.

He publicly denied ever doping for more than a decade before admitting to an extensive use of performance-enhancing drugs in a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

More recently, Armstrong settled a lawsuit with the federal government, which sued on behalf of his former sponsor, the U.S. Postal Service.
