Kids run drills with former New England Patriots players in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Kids in Burlington got a special chance to learn from former professional football players Friday.

It was part of the “Football for YOU” program put on by the New England Patriots Alumni Club.

The kids ran drills with former New England Patriots players at Roosevelt Park.

The group travels to 22 locations across New England.

The former Patriots in Burlington were Steve King, Rick Cash, Rick Buffington, Garin Veris, Harold Shaw, Pete Brock and Jon Williams.

Williams talked to the kids about football and overcoming adversity.

“You’re probably going to get maybe one, maybe none, to go into the NFL but all of them are going to have life skills,” said Williams. “So, if I can share part of my life, it was a tough life growing up but through all the adversity, being able to get through those things through friends, that’s what it’s all about, building a team.”

“They helped us do agility work and taught us how to tackle,” said Owen Stonitsch, 14, of Ticonderoga, NY. “It’s actually a really good experience. They definitely know what they’re talking about, being from the pros.”

Local 22 & Local 44 are your New England Patriots’ stations.

Throughout the season, we’ll be bringing you our half hour show “New England Nation” every Sunday morning as the Patriots march towards the Super Bowl.
