Symptoms can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. In rare cases, hepatitis A can cause liver failure and death. Symptoms typically appear 2 to 7 weeks after exposure and may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dark urine, clay-colored stools, and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes). Some people will not develop symptoms.
