Federer announced in January he wanted to play on the clay this year after avoiding the surface in the past two seasons.
And the Swiss will play his first match of the clay campaign at next month’s Madrid Masters.
That is likely to be his sole warm-up tournament ahead of appearing at the French Open.
Federer begun his training on the clay on Monday and appeared in good spirits as he got his socks dirty.
The official player list is based on the ATP rankings as of April 15.
The likes of Alexander Zverev, last year’s runner-up Dominic Thiem and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka are also included.
Juan Martin Del Porto is also named as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.
On the women’s side, Serena Williams is listed in 11th despite struggling with injury this year.
Williams withdrew from the Miami Open last month with a knee problem but is scheduled to come back at the Rome Masters in May.
US Open and Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka heads the women’s list with 2018 winner Simona Halep in second.
Last year’s runner up Sloane Stephens is eighth with Ashleigh Barty and Aryna Sabalenka rounding out the top 10.
The French Open gets underway on May 26 and concludes on June 9.
The tournaments prize money fund this year has been increased by eight per cent to £36.9million.
Players knocked out in the first round will earn almost ten per cent more than they did in 2018.
