Web pioneer Sir Tim Berners-Lee has warned about the possible consequences of copyright reform

The European parliament has backed controversial copyright laws which critics say could change the nature of the internet.

The laws include holding tech firms responsible for material posted without proper copyright permission.

Many musicians and creators say the new rules will compensate artists fairly but others say it will destroy user-generated content.

348 politicians voted in favour of the Copyright Directive, 278 against.
