Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Jim Ovia, has described the current governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Emefiele, as the best governor of the apex bank in the history of Nigeria.

He made the remark at the 47th convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria Nsukka at the weekend during his conferment with an Honorary Doctoral Degree of Business Administration (DBA).

Ovia was conferred alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji-Uzor Kalu.

He referred to the University of Nigeria as a center of excellence and an institution that has produced industrious individuals in the private as well as public sectors in the country.

He declared that the university is indeed a training ground for capable, committed, and compassionate change agents, having witnessed firsthand, the quality of a product of the institution, in the person of Emefiele, who was the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. between July, 2010 and May, 2014.

Ovia added that during Emefiele’s time, the bank witnessed exponential growth and phenomenal profitability.

He congratulated the graduands and reminded them that at last, their sacrifices and the sleepless nights finally paid off.

Urging them to realise that it was not over yet, Ovia said, “The long hours you spent studying in and outside the classrooms, the early mornings and the late nights you endured and all the hard work that culminated into today’s success story are all a preparation for the life you are about to embark on.
