It was gorgeous first day of spring on Long Island Wednesday, but the nice weather isn’t sticking around. There’s a coastal storm on the way Thursday that will drench the island with rain and don’t look now, but we could see some snow next week.
An area of low pressure will form over the mid-Atlantic and track toward the area through Thursday night, the National Weather Service says. The best chances for rain for the entire area will be Thursday afternoon and night as the low moves over the Tri-State area. The rain will come down moderate to briefly heavy at times, with windy conditions Thursday night. Minor coastal flooding will also be a threat for both Thursday and Thursday night.
As for any snow, there will be a slight chance of snow mixing with rain showers Friday night, but it’s a quick shot of Arctic air coming down from Canada next week that forecasters are keeping a close eye on.
At the moment, the NWS says there’s a 30 percent chance of snow next Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay tuned.
