There is thick tension in Adamawa State as suspected Fulani herdsmen are currently on rampage in the towns of Lawaru and Dong, in Demsa Local government.
This was confirmed by the Adamawa State Commissioner of Information, Ahmad Sajoh who called in at Channels TV Morning program, Sunrise Daily.
According to the commissioner, the true situation of things is still foggy as the attack is still ongoing but he reassured that security agencies have been deployed to bring the situation under control.
“There is an ongoing attack in Lawaru and the attackers are now marching towards Dong community,” Mr Sajoh said. “The attackers are Fulani herdsmen.”
According to the commissioner, it is a regrettable situation because there had been serious effort by the government, community leaders and security agencies to forestall breakdown of order in the state.
“It is highly regretted that attacks will happen this morning after all the efforts put together by the government, community leaders and security agencies. We appeal to everyone to embrace peace as nothing can be achieved in an atmosphere without peace.”
When asked about the convergence of about 500 persons bearing arms that was previously reported, Mr Sajoh said security agents were deployed to disperse them. How they still managed to go ahead in their attack even after security agents took care of them still remains unclear.
Mr Sajoh nonetheless expressed his belief in the security agencies even though he couldn’t explain what prompted this latest attack.
“We can’t say what prompted the attack but we are sure the security agents will take charge of the situation and bring the situation under control,” he said.
