Astronomer reveals truth about Blood Moon apocalypse ‘prophecy’

Enjoy the sunshine whilst you can, because the end of the world is nigh and it’s time to make peace with the creator.

That’s the central claim in a bonkers evangelical conspiracy theory which claims July’s Blood Moon is a sign that the apocalypse is nigh.

End times preachers believe a lunar eclipse which will take place on July 27 shows humanity that doomsday is on the way.

Now an astronomer has stepped up to unleash a broadside of truth bombs which should reassure anyone nervous that the world is about to be destroyed.

Hasan Ahmad Al Hariri, of the Dubai Astronomy Group, said the Blood Moon eclipse is a ‘natural astronomical phenomenon’.

‘This lunar eclipse is a very long one, people are scared and have a perception that it’s a bad thing,’ he told the Khaleej Times.

‘These kinds of superstitions surround these kinds of phenomenon. We tell everyone that none of this is true, it’s a very natural event that can be observed.’

Doomsday preachers predictions are based on a line in the Book of Joel 2:30-31 that says: ‘And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.’

It continues: ‘The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.’

The Book of Revelations also contains a similar passage which reads: ‘And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood.’

These two little lines have prompted a flurry of YouTube videos warning of ‘global chaos’ as human civilisation crumbles.

Irvin Baxter, president of Endtime Ministeries, said: ‘The Bible teaches that end event is coming just ahead of us now and that will be the greatest prophetic fulfilment in the last 2,000 years.’

Before worrying unduly, you may like to consider that Mr Baxter has been predicting the apocalypse since the mid-1980s and humanity still seems to be very much in existence.

Despite its ominous name, a blood moon is just another way to describe a lunar eclipse in which the Moon passes behind Earth and travels into its shadow.

From here on Earth, it often looks as if the lunar surface has taken on a reddish tinge.

The blood moon will appear on July 27 and 28, 2018, and will last for one hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century so far.
